The most expensive summer destinations in New England
Updated August 16, 2018For those looking to get away to the shore before the summer ends, they’ll need to shell out a hefty asking price for stays in Martha’s Vineyard. The destination was recently ranked the most expensive in New England, according to a new survey by BostonHotels.org.
The survey includes 30 destinations across the New England region, comparing hotel rates during the month of August 2018. The last month of summer is often prime vacation season along the New England shore, when accommodations can be sparse.
According to the survey, which looked at prices for the cheapest available double rooms at hotels near either the city center or beach and at least 3 stars, found that visitors to Martha’s Vineyard will spend, on average, $362 per night for the least expensive double room. Second most expensive on the list is Kennebunkport, famous vacation spot of the Bush dynasty, with an average of $347 per night. Coming in third is Chatham, on the southern tip of Cape Cod, at $324 per night for the most affordable room.
On the other end of the spectrum, the least expensive destination in New England is Hartford. In the capital city of Connecticut, travelers can find a room for just slightly above $100 per night.

About the Methodology
The survey considered 30 destinations in New England, which were mainly selected based on their number of available hotels. For each destination, the average price for the cheapest available double room was established for the time period spanning August 1–31, 2018. Only hotels rated at least 3 stars and located close to the city center/beach were considered. Rates were established in late-July based on research conducted on the hotel comparison website Kayak.Press Contact
